Cajun Sunrise has a very large bloom with dark-green foliage and a mild fragrance.  This rose was bred by Eddie Edwards in 2000, and introduced into the United States in 2001 by Johnny Becnel Show Roses, Inc. This variety is an upright grower and will reach a height of 4-5 feet with a bloom diameter of 4.5 inches.  This bush displays the qualities of long stems and large blooms with high centers.  Not only does this rose have great form, but it also makes a beautiful open bloom.  Cajun Sunrise is a great show rose and has won Queen of the Show many times since it was introduced in 2001.

In the early 1990’s Johnny Becnel ordered grafted roses on fortuniana rootstock.  It was widely accepted that this rootstock could not be budded.  Johnny was not happy with the way that these bushes looked when he received them and thought that he could do better and he did.  Johnny started budding fortuniana rootstock and Johnny Becnel Show Roses Inc. was born.   The bushes that Johnny budded and grew in his own yard thrived and fathered many queen trophies.

We lost Johnny Becnel in 2004 but what he left the world of roses will live forever.  His tomb declares him the “Father of Queens.”

Cajun Sunrise can be purchased from Johnny Becnel Show Roses and K&M Nursery.
