Double Delight If I could grow only one rose, it would be Double Delight. This Hybrid Tea truly presents a double delight through its color and scent. Its color is classified as a red blend with medium green leaves. The 35-45 creamy yellow petals are edged in cerise (that elusive color between deep pink and rose red). I have found that sun and age seem to bring out more of the red color in the blooms. Catalogs describe its fragrance as spicy, but I would add lemon to that description. Double Delight will grow to a height of 4-5 feet and with the right conditions will easily spread that far, putting out more of itself on its own roots. Hybridized by Swim & Ellis and released in 1977, Double Delight is the offspring of Granada and Garden Party. In addition to winning frequently as the "Most Fragrant" in rose shows, it has won national and international awards - the Baden-Baden & Rome Gold Medals in 1976 (year before commercial release), All-America Rose Selection in 1977, the Belfast Fragrance Prize in 1980, and the James Alexander Gamble Fragrance Award in 1986. Consider making a place for Double Delight in your garden. I have been
"delighted" with mine! |
